Hemp was one of the first fibres used in ancient papermaking, but today there is only a small number of hemp-based papers still in production.
The Asarakusui, made from true Japanese hemp is a highly original paper where the fibres trace their way across the face of the sheet, leaving randomly sized gorges along the way. It is light by appearance but surprisingly structured. Asarakusui comes in several different colours including white and is specially recommended for collages, the decorative arts and gift-wrapping. It is also often used as an alternative material for screens and window hangings.
