Thesis Binding
A
Thesis is a hard or soft bound A4 portrait binding covered using a
material called buckram which is a highly durable material almost
always specified by your University, in London, the colour tends to be
a mid-blue. Standard colours included in this price are light blue, mid
blue, dark blue, green, black and red. Other buckram colours (white,
yellow, cream and pink) will cost an extra £6.67.
You
will also be required to have certain details blocked onto the spine,
your course, name and date. We include this as part of the cost.
Lettering to the cover is charged at £2 per word.
The cost of a soft bound A4 Thesis is £25.
The cost of a hard bound A4 Thesis is £45.
These
prices are based on a 2 working day service, Monday to Friday providing
the work is with us by 2.30pm. We also offer a 24 hour service (2.30pm
to 2.30pm) however this will attract an extra charge of £15 and is
subject to availability.
You will need to provide the exact specifications required by your University for your binding.
Our
bookbinding service is carried out at our central London workshops to
the highest standards by the staff of Shepherds, Sangorski &
Sutcliffe. Our charges are based on four basic elements
Case Binding Service
This is where your supplied work is bound to your specification using bookcloth or paper
The prices are:
Hard Bound
Up to A4 - £40 plus materials
A4 to A3 - £60 plus materials
A3 to A2 - £75 plus materials
A portrait A4 binding will require 500mm of bookcloth (from £4.45) and a landscape binding will require 1000mm of bookcloth (from £8).
Prices for soft bound bindings are as above less £15.
Block Casing In Service
Where your Shepherds bookblock is bound in a cloth or paper cover.
You may like to have a journal or a
photograph album or an address book made from our selection
available in-store or where you have produced a family book or a
collection of poetry.
Size
Small (up to A5) - from £15 plus material.
Medium (A5 to A4) - from £25 plus material
Large (A4 to A3) - from £30 plus material
Extra Large (A3+) - from £35 plus material
Materials
We can cover your book or album using leather, bookcloth or paper from our extensive range.
Bookcloth
Our
range is sourced from Europe and Japan and is available to view in our
bookbinding department, our staff will advise how much material will be
needed to carry out your particular commission, for example, a portrait
binding will need less cloth than a landscape binding and will
therefore cost less. The price for a European bookcloth starts at £4.45
for a portrait A4 binding.
Paper
We have papers
suitable for covers which are sourced from around the world, the most
beautiful of which, we think, come from Japan and are called Chiyogami
and Katazome-shi. Our staff can advise you as to which would be
suitable for your particular purpose and how much you will need.
Leather
This
will attract an extra charge. This is because the material itself is
more expensive than cloth or paper and the time needed to prepare and
bind with it is much longer than bookcloth or paper. A skin has to be
pared down, shaped and prepared all by hand. Prices for a leather
binding start at £180+VAT.
Endpapers
An endpaper
is the sheet that attaches your text block to the exterior board. Our
basic price includes white endpapers. If you would prefer coloured
paper then you will be charged for the cost of the paper, for example a
sheet of Fabriano Ingres is charged at 87p. A coloured endpaper can add
sophistication to your book.
Time
In
some cases where the job is particularly time consuming, an extra
charge may be levied, however you will be advised of this beforehand.
Detail
If your work requires extra detail, for example lettering or a leather lable then an extra charge will be levied.
