Japanese Washi is very different from Western paper; its strength, the way it feels and the way it takes media are very different from one another. Traditionally it was used not just for art but also for making clothes, boxes, windows and even for parts of Samurai armour.

Sometimes referred to as mullberry or rice paper, it is used by printmakers, conservators, bookbinders, interior designers, artists, fan makers and of course for origami.

Our selection of Premium Grade Japanese Paper represents the very finest washi available anywhere in the world. As a rule of thumb, this paper is made using 90-100% pure fibre and the sheets are made entirely by hand in Japan.

Our standard range represents papers which are less pure in terms of fibre content and which may be made, at least partially by machine.
