Boxmaking course -
2 Day 26th and 27th March
: Two types of boxes will be made in this course : a solander box (also called clamshell box), which is the most secure way of storing books for it isolates it completely from dust, light, humidity etc… ; and a slipcase, which has the advantage of keeping the book spine visible once it's on the shelf.
The solander box will be made on the first day, using pre-cut materials. Participants will learn how to construct the body of the box, cover it with Buckram and line it with paper. On the second day participants will create a slipcase for their own individual book, which will also teach them how to measure the different parts of the box.
